Days left until the Olympics
Meet The Athletes
Nicky Hunt - Archer
A qualified Physiotherapist, Nicky has taken a sabbatical from her job to concentrate on her dream of representing Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics. Over the past couple of years Nicky has made her mark in the compound community, winning two World Cup stages, being ranked world number one and winning double gold at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in India. What more could you ask for, one might wonder? Like many other athletes Nicky also has the "Olympic Dream". This dream tempted her to make the surprising switch from dominating with the compound to basically starting all over in the (Olympic) recurve division.
"The support given to me by Your World Recruitment will help me to concentrate on my training, and it will be great to know I have so many of their employees will be cheering me on to qualify, and hopefully to a medal" says Nicky
Training update
"Since becoming world number one and winning double gold at the commonwealth games in 2010 with the compound bow, I made the switch to the recurve (Olympic) discipline. I am working hard on returning to this technique which I shot for Great Britain with as a junior. Over the last month I have been in Australia and Thailand training and competing. I shoot 6 days a week, shooting around 1200-1300 arrows, and complete 9 gym sessions a week. Competition for Olympic places is fierce, and I am working as hard and smart as possible for my best chance to make the team."
Anne Wafula Strike - Wheelchair Sprinter
2004 marked the beginning of an Olympic career for Anne, when she became the first wheelchair racer from East Africa to compete at the Paralympics in Athens. Following an application for British citizenship in 2006, Anne joined Team GB and in 2007 was officially recognised by the Queen at a Buckingham Palace reception for her work as a disabled athlete and for involvement in charity work for people with disabilities. Anne is currently preparing for the 2012 Paralympics in London. Her main discipline being the wheelchair sprint.
"I am so delighted to have the support from Your World Recruitment, it is great to know that they are keen to support athletes to achieve our best" says Anne
Training update
"Training is going really well, in spite of the poor weather we have been having, but it's good not to let anything get in one's way. A typical week for me involves two sessions of strength and conditioning in the gym, two sessions out on the road, and four sessions on the track. I missed training on the track last week because the facility I use had a leaky boiler so access to the track was not possible due to the work being carried out. This is where I had to be clever and improvise the track sessions out on the road." 'There is no lift to success – you have to take the stairs'.
